UNO Wahida’s father shifted to Dhaka for better treatment

Freedom fighter Omar Ali Sheikh, father of Ghoraghat UNO Wahida Khanam, was shifted to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka from Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) for better treatment.

The 70-year-old freedom fighter Omor Sheikh was admitted to National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital, Wahida’s brother Sheikh Farid Uddin said.

An ambulance of Rangpur City Corporation (RCC) carried him to the capital city, he added.

An ambulance carrying Omar Ali set off from RMCH yesterday night and reached Dhaka around 9:00 am on Sunday, confirmed Prof Dr Badrul Alam, joint director of National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital

He had been undergoing treatment in Rangpur hospital since the attack by miscreants on UNO Wahida in the early hours of September 3, when Omor was injured as he tried to protect his daughter.

Omar Sheikh is currently unable to move as the lower part of his body has gone numb, said physician.

Wahida Khanam, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Ghoraghat (Dinajpur), was seriously injured in an attack by miscreants at her home on the Upazila Parishad premises on September 3.

Her father Omar Ali was also injured in the gruesome attack. They were taken to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital.

Later, the UNO was airlifted from Rangpur to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force MI-171SH helicopter.

She was admitted to the National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital, Dhaka.
