Forty-five years after he took part in the 1975 assassination of Bangladesh’s founding father, the former Bangladesh Army captain was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday by the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime(CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
After spending life as a fugitive for more than 20 years, Abdul Majed, one of the convicts in the killing of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Finally one of the convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Captain (Dismissed) Abdul Majed to be executed tonight.
Wishing anonymity, a jail official said no execution has been conducted so far after the scaffold was prepared.
Meanwhile.the scaffold has been cleaned and a trial will be conducted when the time of the execution will be sent from the Home Ministry. Even the hangman has also been fixed primarily.
The family members of Abdul Majed met him at Dhaka Central Jail in Keranigonj. Five members, including Majed’s wife Saleha, one brother-in-law and one uncle-in-law, entered the jail on Friday evening.
Earlier on Wednesday, the rejection letter of Majed’s life plea reached the jail and then the jail authority started preparing for the execution.
