The government has decided to extend the ongoing countrywide lockdown for another week as Covid-19 infection is still on the rise.
The decision came from a meeting of secretaries chaired by Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islamin Dhaka on Monday.
The new phase of the lockdown will continue from Apr 22 to Apr 28, merging it with the ongoing phase that ends on Apr 21.
Amid the resurgence in infections and deaths, the NTAC had recommended a complete lockdown for at least two weeks. The government has already implemented a weeklong lockdown from April 14.
The country yesterday (April 18) recorded 102 deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, the highest single-day death toll reported in the country. With the latest figure, the number of total fatalities now stands at 10,385.
Besides, 3,698 people have tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 718,950.
