Lakshmipur: Two children suffering from fever and cough die


Two children, suffering from fever, cough and breathing complications, died in Kamalnagar upazila of Lakshmipur. Of the two, a 26-month-old child from Torabganj was suffering from a cough and breathing complications.

Two days ago, his condition worsened and he developed convulsions and severe respiratory complications by Friday evening. He later succumbed to the complications and died, according to sources at Kamalnagar upazila health complex.

The other child, a four-year-old from Char Martin union, was suffering from fever for a month. He died on Saturday morning, while being taken to Noakhali sadar hospital, sources said.

“Samples collected from the bodies of the deceased will be sent to the Institute of Epidemiology Disease Control and Research (IEDCR),” said Abu Taher, Kamalnagar upazila health and family planning official.

Following the child’s death in Torabganj, the local administration locked three families down on Friday night.

“As the Torabganj child died of respiratory complications, we coordinated with the health department and locked down three families,” said Nurul Absar, officer-in-charge of Kamalnagar police station.
