Pradeep Kumar Shaha, officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station, has been arrested from Chattogram in a case filed with the police station in connection with the killing of Maj (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan.
Chattogram Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Mahbubur Rahman confirmed the news.
He said OC Pradip came to Chattogram Divisional Police Hospital on Thursday afternoon to surrender himself. Currently, he is being taken to Cox’s Bazar under police custody.
He will later be handed over to Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), added CMP commissioner.
Earlier on Wednesday, a Cox’s Bazar court issued an arrest warrants against OC Pradeep Kumar Shaha and eight others in the case.
The government withdrew the officer-in-charge of Teknaf Police Station Pradip Kumar Saha over the killing on Wednesday.
Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed was killed in police ‘shootout’ at Baharchhara police check-post in Teknaf on Friday night.
Besides, the authorities on Sunday suspended 21 police officers, including the in-charge of Baharchhara police outpost.
The accused against whom arrest warrants were issued have already been withdrawn from their previous workplaces and are now attached to the police line.
Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous, elder sister of Major (retd) Sinha Md Rashed Khan, filed the case on Wednesday morning.
