Bangladesh extends coronavirus lockdown to April 14

Bangladesh government has further extended the ongoing shutdown till April 14 to curb the spread of the novel coronavirus in the country.

In a circular today, the Public Administration Ministry said, April 12 and 13 will be added to the current general holidays. Besides, the leave of Pahela Boishakh on April 14 will also be among the holiday.

Vehicles of emergency services including electricity, water, gas, fire service, cleaning, telephone and internet will be out of purview of the restrictions. Besides, same order will be applicable for vehicles carrying agricultural goods, fertilizers, food, medicine and other daily essentials.

Offices can be kept open in case of emergency. Pharmaceuticals and export-oriented factories can remain open too during the holidays.

Earlier, the government announced closure of all public and private offices from March 26 to April 4 which was extended till April 11 afterwards.

All public transport services were suspended after the orders.

So far, a total of nine people have died from the deadly virus in the country and 88 people have been tested positive.
