Afghanistan’s Defense Ministry said Tuesday in a statement that a number of 16 insurgents have been killed and 11 others wounded as a conflict took in Gizab and Dehrawad districts of the southern Uruzgan province on Monday.
The clash erupted after the Taliban insurgents attacked security checkpoints and the security forces retaliated, killing 16 armed militants and injuring 11 others, the statement added.
A number of arms and ammunition, including 17 anti-personnel and anti-vehicle mines, had also been discovered and destroyed, the statement further said, without hinting at the possible casualties of security forces.
The Taliban outfit has yet to make comment on the report.
