5 new coronavirus cases in Bangladesh now stand at 61: Minister Zahid Maleque

Five more people have been tested positive in Bangladesh for coronavirus in the last 24 hours, raising the total number of coronavirus cases in the country to 61.

No new death from Covid-19 was confirmed across the country in the last 24 hours keeping the total death toll at six.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque disclosed the information in an online press briefing on Friday noon.

Bangladesh so far confirmed six deaths from coronavirus disease while 26 patients recovered so far and 29 patients are now undergoing treatment.

The minister urged everyone to stay indoors and comply with the directives of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. “Please stay indoors and always maintain a safe distance,” he said.

He emphasised that more tests are necessary to keep the spread under control.

“It’s very important to test everyone with symptoms to detect coronavirus infection. I urge everyone to come forward and get tested. It’ll protect you as well as your family,” said Zahid Malek.

Besides, the death toll from the coronavirus or COVID-19 has crossed 54,000 globally as of Friday evening here.

Coronavirus has so far infected about 10 lakh people around the world, according to worldometer.
